Youtube
https://www.youtube.com/
YouTube is a video sharing website where users can upload all different kinds of videos for others to view. You can find music videos, movie clips, documentaries, educational songs, lectures, funny videos, news clips and much more. Youtube can be a great tool to use in education if the teacher properly and carefully selects the video. The teacher has the responsibility to view the video and make sure it is appropriate. There are plenty of inappropriate videos on youtube. The most important aspect of using youtube in the classroom is that the teacher use the smart board to show the video. Do not let students control what the class is watching. They could select inappropriate videos.
Youtube could be used to find education videos that are related to your topic. This is a great way to engage the students and get them interested in the material you are plan on teaching that day. It can also be used to review or give an overview of what they are going to do. They can see experiments on youtube that you would not be able to do in the classroom. You can show them places, or things they would not normally be able to see without the internet. If you are teaching a lesson on ecosystems, you could show the students ecosystems they would not be able to normally see and how they can change over time. Youtube can be a great resource if it is properly used in the classroom. It has a lot of inappropriate videos and videos that are not accurate. Below is an example of a youtube video that you could use in a lesson about ecosystems. It shows how one animal changes the entire landscape of an ecosystem.

Google Docs/ Google Drive
Google Drive/ Docs is free to use for anyone who creates a Gmail account and is a great tool when doing collaborative work such as projects. Google Drive allows the user to store files on a cloud server that you can access at any time as long as you are connected to the internet. Google Docs allows the teacher to set up a virtual classroom (for free) and set up each student with an account. The students can then log onto Google Docs and share projects, essays, or any other material the teacher wants turned in online. The teacher can monitor each student as they are typing and can make suggestions and comments. The teacher does not have to be in the same room as the student or be on at the same time. The teacher can message the student or vice versa and the teacher can comment on the work at any time. Google Docs allows the user to use any program that would normally come with Microsoft Office. The user has access to Google's version of excel, word and PowerPoint.
One of the coolest and most important features of Google Docs is the ability to collaborate on projects. Students can create a file and everyone can work on it at the same time. Everyone can be working on their section and add to the file as they go. The students can see what each other has written and add to each others work. They do not have to wait around and add it after someone is done typing. It also makes it easier for students to collaborate on the project/ work outside of class as long as they internet access. They can see what each other has done and message the teacher at any time. They can then share the file with the teacher and ask for feedback along the way. The teacher can also look to check the students progress over the course of the project. The video below goes over some basic features of Google Docs.

The teacher still has to watch the videos ahead of time in order to find the best one. The teacher should also not allow the students to find and shows their own videos to the class without the teacher viewing it ahead of time. The student could send the link and the teacher could watch it before showing it to the class.
